米国東部。
Hackberry is closely related to sugarberry (Celtis laevigata) and is a member of the elm family.
There is little difference between sapwood and heartwood which is yellowish grey to light brown with yellow streaks.
The wood is very susceptible to blue staining before and after kiln drying and has irregular grain, occasionally straight and sometimes interlocked, with a fine uniform texture.
ハックベリーはシュガーベリー(学名 Celtis laevigata)との関連が深く、得る無の1種。
心辺材の区別はほとんどなく、黄色の筋が入った黄灰色から淡褐色。
人工乾燥の前後に青いしみができやすく、木目は通っていたりよじれたりと不規則。
木肌は密。
The wood planes and turns well and is intermediate in its ability to hold nails and screws, and stains and polishs satisfactorily.
Hackberry dries readily with minimal degrade.
It has a fairly high shrinkage and lack a little stability.
プレーナー、旋盤加工に適するが、釘、ねじの適応性は中程度。
ステイン、つや出し加工が可能。
乾燥しやすく損傷も最小。
収縮率は高く、安定性に欠ける。
Hackberry is moderately hard, heavy and has medium bending strength, high shock resistance but is low in stiffness.
It has a good steam-bending classification.

曲げは中、衝撃耐性は高いが、剛性は低い。

Non-resistant to heartwood decay.
Liable to attack by forest longhorn and Buprestid beetle.
The heartwood is moderately resistant to preservative treatment but the sapwood is permeable.
心材は耐朽性がない。
虫害に弱い。
防腐処理については心材は中程度だが、辺材は適している。
In America:Lumber is reasonable available ,but main force is low-classification wood because of lack thick-wood.
In Japan:Limited because of low demand and worry of blue staining.
米国内では、製材は一般的に普及しているが、厚い材がなく、低等級の材が主力。
日本国内では、需要が低く、青じみの懸念もあり、限定されている。
